With some excellent scores coming in and the course in superb condition, five golfers fought for the runners-up spot.  In sixth place was Terry Robinson, Richard Budd fifth, Heather Culshaw was fourth and in third place was John Hasson.  David McConnell, a new name to the podium places, taking second spot, with all these players on 47 points.  Just keeping the challengers at bay, and keeping his nerve, was young Finn Aldrich on 48 points.

Finn won a tour event for the 10-11 age groups last year at Horsham which was run by the Mike Yorke Golf Academy based at Horsham and Horne Park Golf Clubs and was third in the Club’s previous Stableford – I am sure we will hear a lot more from this young man.

The weather forecast was doubtful for the annual Turkey Trot,  but it turned out fine, much better than expected , with reasonable golfing conditions.

The winners on the day were the team of Barbara Rowe, Alex Cresswell, Mike Streeter and Alf Goodchild, on countback from Mavis Wells, Keith Gaston-Parry, John Fiander and Colin Kimber.  In the spirit of Christmas all players took home a prize.

Annual Trophies were presented to Barry Bethell- Mens Champion with Roy Francis runner up.  Bev Field -Ladies Champion, Sue Lyons-Ladies Best Gross.  Alex Cresswell and Barbara Munro took the Mens and Ladies matchplay titles respectively, while Alex with Mick Riley picked up the Pairs Matchplay title.  The 2011 Orders of Merit went to Sue Lyons and John Taylor.

In a more light-hearted vein the “gang” of Four Bandits of 2011 were brought out from ” the hole in the wall” and paraded in Sombrero’s in front of the cheering crowd to strains of the theme music from the film The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

The Seniors had for some time sought an identifying name, running a competition for suggestions, with proceeds going to “Help for Heroes”.  A short list of suitable names was drawn up from entries received, on which the seniors voted at the Turkey Trot lunch.  The winning name, proposed by Alf Goodchild is Gaffers, henceforth the seniors will refer to their group as the ” Horsham Gaffers “

Despite the water supply to the club, along with other parts of Horsham, being cut off for the duration of the event, the lunch was excellent and thanks to the efforts of Anita, Heidi and Beth, who in addition to cooking for 38, had to ferry water in from off site.
